Born and raised in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, David became fascinated by viticulture and enology at a young age. As a teen, he worked at multiple local wineries before formally studying enology and viticulture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (with short academic stints in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany). His undergraduate work led to a master's degree researching the quantification, capture, and re-use of desirable aromas otherwise lost with CO2 during fermentation. Applying this research led to a collaboration with Clos de la Tech. Since joining the Clos de la Tech team in 2012, and in large thanks to his late mentor and world class viticulturist Rex Geitner, David has focused his attention towards the vineyard as he leads the team in farming extreme cool climate Pinot Noir.
