Jeremy Sedaka

Assistant Winemaker at Chalk Hill

Hailing from Southern California, Jeremy Sedaka initially studied Physics at San Diego State University before discovering his passion for wine. With a solid foundation in winemaking gained from the Fresno State University Wine & Viticulture program coupled with his experience working at wineries in some of the best regions around the world, Jeremy’s experience making wine at a variety of different levels is something he is most proud of in his career.  He was originally drawn to the craft for its expressive meld between art and science, and the dynamic nature of applied farming. The trade is almost philosophical in a sense to him as he describes winemaking as, “The lessons offered in creating a bottle of wine from soil to glass parallels what we learn about ourselves over time.”

After a harvest role at Ram’s Gate Winery, Carneros, Jeremy was inspired to continue his education and enrolled in Fresno State University Wine & Viticulture program where he graduated with an Enology degree in  2016. He gained enology experience at O’Neill Vintners and Distillers before moving to New Zealand to work for Vavasour Wines, Waimea Estates and Gravity Wines.

Jeremy joined Chalk Hill Estate Vineyard & Winery in 2019 as Enologist and was promoted to Assistant Winemaker in January 2020. He was immediately drawn to the untouched beauty of the Chalk Hill AVA, incredible diversity of the estate vineyards and Chardonnay program at Chalk Hill. He is consistently impressed with eh quality of the fruit. Jeremy appreciates the challenges of each harvest, recognizing that no two vintages are the same. As the Assistant Winemaker, he has a variety of responsibilities from day-to-day cellar operations to conducting blending trials with the winemaker, but two of his favorites are contributing to the continuous improvement of Chalk Hill’s sustainability practices, and developing a true respect and relationship with each vineyard block.

In his free time, Jeremy enjoys an active lifestyle of hiking, yoga, backpacking, and visiting the beach. He also enjoys learning about garden and plant propagation, photography, and making kombucha. Jeremy loves to travel and visit winemaking regions around the world with wife Kari.

Jeremy is a featured winemaker for the The Pinot Party Luncheon on Saturday, March 4, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
