Matt Nocas

Stolpman Vineyards
Matt Nocas is the associate winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards in Santa Barbara, and assists with hospitality and events, wine club soirees, and hosting visiting wine professionals, Sommeliers and Masters of Wine. During university at Cal Poly SLO, he began at the front of house - in a wine bar, tasting rooms, and fine dining, before gradually shifting into harvest work at crush. In February 2015 he was certified as a Sommelier with highest honors in the sitting exam body. Matt’s wild-eyed passion for wine was such that he wanted to make it, which lead to a production focused dedication in the cellar at Stolpman in 2016. Outside of the wine world Matt enjoys traveling and tasting wine abroad, supporting ocean clean-up efforts at home, and he lives to surf big waves. He has worked with the World of Pinot Noir for 8 years running and is honored to serve alongside a solid group of Sommeliers at the event, many of whom have been influential in his career as mentors and inspirations. Currently, Nocas’ favorite renditions of Pinot Noir include the fertile, saline expression of the extreme Sonoma Coast and the lean, delicate purity from Irancy and Sancerre.
