  • 2019 Old Corral Pinot Noir
    Santa Cruz Mountains/Big Basin Estate
    Expand
The Old Corral Pinot is sourced from our Certified Organic Estate Vineyard. Three separate hillside blocks are used to produce this wine with one planted to Swan clone and the others planted to Mt. Eden clone. We fermented this wine with 100% whole clusters and only indigenous yeast in small open top fermenters. Basket pressed and aged for 18 months in French oak. Deeply spicy and perfumed nose where one has to hunt for the fruit layered beneath the surface. Black cherries, pomegranate, wild berries all emerge with air. Bright and expansive on the palate with fine grained tannins and ample extract to carry the berry flavors long and with length. The purity of fruit is stunning which is a theme we have seen repeated among 2019 vintage wines. 94 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous
    Suggested Retail Price: $70
  • 2021 Rodnick.farm Pinot Noir
    Gabilan Mountains-Chalone/Rodnick.farm
    Expand
Rodnick.farm is located on the western slopes of the Gabilan Mountains at 1600-1900 ft. This area experiences a high desert climate along with influences from Monterey Bay. This combination creates an ideal growing climate where extreme day to night temperature swings allow for a longer, more concentrated maturation of grapes. The unique soil combination of limestone and decomposed granite provides excellent drainage required for deep roots and healthy vines. We fermented this wine with 100% whole clusters and only indigenous yeast in small open top fermenters. Basket pressed and aged for 18 months in French oak. We are excited to introduce this new release from this organically certified historic vineyard in the Chalone AVA, now also a part of the new Gabilan Mountains AVA. (which includes two other wines in this release. ) The label showcases one of the special sheep used on the ranch in addition to sheep dogs, all of which were also ‘Certified Organic’ by CCOF as part of the vineyard ecosystem. 94 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Description

Big Basin Vineyards is terraced into a steep hillside first planted to grapevines by French immigrants more than 100 years ago. Our estate and our carefully selected partner vineyards are all located at sites in the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains that are as beautiful as they are exceptional for grape growing. We farm organically, time our harvests to capture intensity and elegance, and practice minimal-intervention winemaking. Our goal is to produce aromatic and ethereal wines that transparently and authentically express terroir and variety.
