The thin, limestone-rich soils of Chalone Vineyard produce low yields of grapes bursting with rich, intense flavors and impeccable balance. Year after year, our Estate Pinot Noir exemplifies the impeccable structure and flavor complexity imparted by old vines budded to heritage clones. The 2021 Estate Pinot Noir hails from the Reservoir, Vista, MacWood, Upper and Lowest vineyard sites of Chalone Vineyard. The final wine blend includes a variety of Pinot Noir clones: 667, 777, 113, 114, 115, Pommard 4, Swan and MacWood. The Chalone 2021 Estate Pinot Noir reveals aromas of freshly picked cherries, vanilla, and violet with hints of graphite and wet stone. On the palate, savory red fruit flavors of raspberry and plum are complimented with a touch of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. A silky mouthfeel delivers a plush mid-palate with a viscosity of creamy tannins and balanced acidity.
    Suggested Retail Price: $39.99

Description

Perched in the remote Gavilan Mountain Range, 1,800 feet above California's Salinas Valley, this rugged vineyard sits at the base of an extinct volcano bordering the Pinnacles National Park. Chalone Vineyard is one of the few wineries in the U.S. growing grapes in limestone-based soils, the same as in Burgundy. The spare, well-drained ground, limited rainfall, and low crop levels attracted Dick Graff, who wanted to make top-flight Burgundian-styled Chardonnay. Graff made his first vintage under the Chalone Vineyard label in 1966, producing what became a benchmark for California Chardonnay.

Today, we continue to focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We also produce limited amounts of Pinot Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, and Grenache. All of our estate wines are grown and bottled at the estate, meaning we control everything from vine to bottle.
