  • 2019 Domaine Nico Grand Père Pinot Noir
    Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
    Expand
The world's first extreme high-altitude parcela Pinot Noir. An unusual location for the New World with limestone soils of alluvial origin and cool climate. Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. The vineyard is named after Laura Catena's daughter Nicola, whose name pays homage to Nicola Catena, Laura's great grandfather and founder of the Catena winery in 1902. This wine has a kind of elegance and classic Pinot Noir style that fits with the name, "Grandfather". Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine. The vineyard is old, planted in Villa Bastías with Dijon Clones in 1993. The Grand Pere parcel is shaded, with delicate red fruits and high acidity. Mineral. Yields are extremely low due to the age of the vineyard.
    Suggested Retail Price: $30

A play on the famous pornographic novel Histoire d'O by Pauline Réage - this parcel makes a very "sexy" wine and the name seemed appropriate. In Histoire d'A we use whole clusters during fermentantion to highlight the texture and graininess of the wines. Histoire d'A parcel has great sun exposure, with cinnamon, clave and a perceived sweetness to the tannins.

Description

The world's first extreme high-altitude parcela Pinot Noir. An unusual location for the New World with limestone soils of alluvial origin and cool climate, in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. The dream behind Domaine Nico was born in the early 90' when Nicolás Catena first planted Pinot Noir Dijon Clones in the high altitude of Mendoza. The project was born from Laura Catena's obsession with Burgundian Pinot Noir. There are five different parcels, Grand Mère, Grand Père, Histoire d'A, La Savante and Le Paradis (at more than 5,000 ft of elevation)
