  • 2021 Modus Operandi Cellars ~ UV Laguna Vineyard
    Sonoma/Russian River/UV Laguna
    Expand
Nestled in the Russian River Valley, the UV-Laguna Vineyard is a prestigious producer of exceptional Pinot Noir. Established in 2001 by the late vineyard manager, Ulises Valdez Sr. The UV-Laguna Vineyard has attracted an impressive roster of esteemed clients, featuring winemaking luminaries such as Mark Aubert, Sam Kaplan, Paul Hobbs, Thomas Rivers Brown, Tony Arcudi, Helen Keplinger, Matt Courtney, and Jason Moore. This sought-after Pinot Noir has garnered critical acclaim, earning an outstanding 97 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown of The Wine Independent. The 2021 vintage of the UV-Laguna Vineyard Pinot Noir exhibits a medium ruby-purple hue. Upon pouring, the wine reveals tantalizing notes of juicy black raspberries, crushed red currants, and lilacs. Further exploration uncovers delicate hints of violets, dried lavender, dried mint, and crushed rocks, all complemented by a touch of cedar chest. The full-bodied, rich, and opulent palate showcases a powerhouse of fruit flavors, skillfully balanced by subtle earth and mineral undertones. Beautifully plush tannins support the wine, culminating in a finish marked by epic length and captivating tension. This exceptional Pinot Noir is produced using a blend of 50% clone 777 and 50% clone 667, a combination that further enhances the wine’s complexity and character. Owing to its exclusivity, the UV-Laguna Vineyard Pinot Noir is available in extremely limited quantities, with an annual production of only 75 to 125 cases. 97pts

  • 2021 Modus Operandi Cellars ~ Gap's Crown Vineyard
    Sonoma/Petaluma Gap/Gap's Crown
    Expand
Gap’s Crown Vineyard, situated on Sonoma Mountain’s western slope in Penngrove, east of Rohnert Park, was originally part of the Sonoma Coast AVA but now belongs to the newly established Petaluma Gap AVA. This new AVA is characterized by afternoon wind and fog that enter through a wind gap in the coastal mountain range, extending from Bodega Bay in the Pacific Ocean to San Pablo Bay, via Petaluma. Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, it bursts with black cherries, fresh blackberries, and pomegranate notes, plus suggestions of clove oil, sandalwood, and cinnamon toast with a touch of Jasmine tea. The full-bodied palate delivers concentrated black berry and spicy layers, supported by finely-grained tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and fragrant. 95pts

  • 2021 Modus Operandi Cellars ~ Bacigalupi Vineyard
    Sonoma/Russian River/Bacigalupi
    Expand
The fruit from Bacigalupi comes from two blocks on their Frost Ranch property which split Clones 667 and 777. The wine when young has a deceptive nose of forest floor, wet earthy humus and dried herb which leads one to believe the wine will be light in weight, with high acid and moderate tannin, however… once the wine is on the palate it leaves nothing to the imagination as it is extremely generous with loads of ripe red fruit, lush creamy round texture, moderate to low acid… PURE-California! This is one of our favorite wines to make AND drink!
    Suggested Retail Price: $75

Description

Modus Operandi Cellars produces extremely small quantities of single vineyard and experimental lot wines.

Jason Moore was born and raised in Dallas, TX where he fell in love with wine in his teenage years while working as a waiter in the city's fine dining restaurants.
After a quick year in real estate at the age of 21, Jason realized that his passion was in wine, and more specifically, his lofty aspiration was to become a winemaker in Napa Valley. With the approval of his girlfriend, they eloped in secret, sold everything they owned, and drove cross country to pursue Jason’s dream of starting a winery.
So, with no formal education in winemaking, Jason honed his craft in the garage of an elderly vineyard owner in Napa that he had fortuitously met at a wine tasting. He grew the grapes, Jason made the wine, and they split the wine on bottling day.
In 2004 at the age of 26, Jason officially started his professional winemaking career by launching Modus Operandi Cellars & Vicarious Wines with 200 cases of Napa Cabernet. Since then, Jason has grown the winery to over 5,000 cases selling 80+ percent direct to consumer with little to no advertising.
His wines have been poured at a historic White House State Dinner, they’ve been written into a Michael Connelly novel The Black Box, and have consistently scored in the mid to high 90’s by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, Antonio Galloni, James Suckling, and other major critics.
