Bernard Retornaz has dedicated his career to the wine industry, bringing decades of expertise in international sales, marketing, and business development. His journey began in 1984 after completing his studies in electronics and gaining seven years of experience in international sales and marketing. His passion for wine led him to his first role in the industry as Export Sales Manager for Maison Labouré-Roi, a historic Burgundy négociant based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France. During his three and a half years with the company, he was based in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy’s winemaking tradition, where he deepened his knowledge of the region’s terroir and global wine commerce.

In 1988, Bernard transitioned to the United States to become Vice President of J.C. Boisset Wines U.S.A. Inc., based in San Francisco. This role allowed him to leverage his international experience to manage the import and distribution of fine European wines while overseeing production for Christophe and Lyeth Vineyards in California. His leadership contributed to the company’s growth in the competitive U.S. market, further establishing his reputation as a key player in the industry.

His deep understanding of the global wine trade and strategic vision led to his appointment in September 1991 as President of Maison Louis Latour’s U.S. subsidiary, Louis Latour Inc. For over three decades, Bernard has been instrumental in expanding the presence of this prestigious Burgundy house in the United States. Under his leadership, Louis Latour Inc. has strengthened its distribution network, introduced its wines to a broader audience, and maintained its status as one of the most respected names in fine wine.
