Björnson Vineyard was conceived in the 1980’s when Pattie met Mark at the University of Minnesota. They married, raised four children, and worked in the Twin Cities until Mark was able to move his job to Oregon in 2005. Their plan was to spend weekends driving the countryside in search of their dream – a vineyard site with forests and streams in the Willamette Valley. Within months, they purchased a scenic 107-acre farm in the Eola-Amity Hills and set to work. Since then, they have cleared and planted a 28-acre vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills, a 32-Acre Vineyard in Van Duzer Corridor, built a winery, and produced award-winning wines. Their progress was made possible by taking viticulture and winemaking classes at Chemeketa Community College, a powerhouse of premier wine industry education in the Willamette Valley. Pattie also interned at Bethel Heights Winery, learning from Ben Casteel. About 5 years ago, Pattie passed the winemaking baton to Scott Sabbadini (formerly of Domaine Roy) who continues to produce world class wines from our estate vineyards. Committed to the excellence of Eola-Amity Hills and other middle portions of the Willamette Valley, Mark Björnson, along with our neighbors, has contributed to the development of this now highly sought after AVA. We are proud to be on the forefront of high scoring Pinot Noir production in Oregon as well as being a founding member of the Eola-Amity Hills and Van Duzer Corridor.
