Since the founding in 1984 of Gainey Estate Vineyards, we have always been committed to making the best wines possible from vineyards with fruit that we grow, produce and bottle entirely ourselves. In 1997, we acquired and developed the Evan’s Ranch Vineyard in the western Santa Ynez Valley, planting fifty-four acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. This decision proved to be quite strategic as this was several years ahead of what was to quickly become the most exciting cold-climate growing region in California, the Sta. Rita Hills. Known for its refrigerated-sunlight climate and diversity of oceanic and clay soils, the Sta. Rita Hills has become a proven source for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and cold-climate Syrah. Located in the southeastern corridor of the applelation, the Evan's Ranch consists of 54 planted acres with 25 acres of Chardonnay, 22 acres of Pinot Noir and 6 acres of Syrah. Within the 34 distinct blocks, there are 11 different selections of Pinot Noir, 7 different Chardonnay selections and 4 types of Syrah.
