WINEMAKING NOTES: The grapes for this wine were primarily grown in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County, which sits on a gravelly alluvial plain beneath the Santa Lucia Mountains. Cool winds from Monterey Bay ensure gradual ripening and development of vibrant flavors. The rocky soils allow excellent drainage, enhancing intensity and promoting balanced ripeness and acidity. TASTING NOTES: Aromas of red and dark cherry, raspberry and strawberry are joined by subtle touches of vanilla and toasty oak. The palate is medium- bodied with silky tannins, a soft round mouthfeel, excellent acid balance and notes of earthiness on a long, lingering finish.

WINEMAKING: Picked in early morning, the Pinot Noir grapes were destemmed into stainless steel tanks and fermented for about two weeks. During that time, the wine was pumped over several times daily to maximize color, aromatics and flavor extraction. After the juice was pressed off the skins, it was settled and racked into French oak barrels to age for 11 months. TASTING NOTES: Ruby red in color, with aromas of black cherry, ripe red berry and subtle hints of vanilla and warm spice. On the palate, soft and delicate flavors of cherry and raspberry are followed by creamy nuances and spicy minerality, culminating in a pleasantly long finish.
    Suggested Retail Price: $21.99

WINEMAKING: The 2021 vintage was crafted using small-lot winemaking techniques to capture a true expression of each vineyard block. Only estate vineyard lots with consistent superior characteristics were selected to ensure exceptional quality of this blend. The grapes were harvested during cool mornings, brought to the winery, destemmed into open-top stainless-steel tanks, cold-soaked and fermented on the skins for 10 days. The wine was then pressed off, settled and racked into a selection of small 60-gallon French oak barrels where it was aged for 14 months. When the wine was ready to be blended, our winemaker selected only the finest barrels that exemplify the aromas and flavors of the Santa Lucia Highlands. TASTING NOTES: Vivid red ruby in the glass, this wine opens with the aroma of red fruit, cherry, blackberry and hints of earthiness, delicate toast and vanilla spice. The palate is rich, with refined silky tannins, medium acidity and flavors of cherry, red plums, raspberry and subtle notes of allspice on a long elegant finish.
    Suggested Retail Price: $26.99

Description

The Hahn story began in 1979 when Nicky and Gaby Hahn established their vineyards on former horse and cattle ranches along the Central Coast of California. Hahn actually means rooster in German, a nod to the heritage of our Swiss-born founders, the ranches upon which they established their vineyards, and a notable symbol on our packaging. Now, over 40 years later, our wines are produced to the same quality standards originally set forth by our founders. Given the climate of the Central Coast, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are some of our top-selling wines.
