  • 2021 2021 EEL RIVER VALLEY PINOT NOIR HUMBOLDT COUNTY
    HUMBOLDT COUNTY
    Expand
The 2021 Eel River Valley Pinot Noir represents our vision of the quintessential expression of Pinot Noir from Humboldt County. As the mighty Eel River winds throughout Humboldt, it experiences the nuances of micro-climates from the mountains to the coast. Pockets of warmth, steep ridges, rocky slopes, cool valleys, and coastal fog provide unique vineyard areas to produce an array of Pinot Noir styles. Our Eel River Valley is the amalgamation of those styles. The 2021 is a luxurious blend of five vineyards, Ryan, Alderpoint, Miller Creek, Fruitland Ridge, and Phelps.

  • 2021 ALDERPOINT VINEYARD PINOT NOIR HUMBOLDT COUNTY
    HUMBOLDT COUNTY
    Expand
The 2021 Alderpoint Pinot Noir from Humboldt County is back after a brief hiatus in 2020, when I was forced to skip the vintage due to wildfires making the area completely inaccessible during the time we intended to harvest. Planted in 1992, Alderpoint is another vineyard that features the Martini clone of Pinot Noir and has become a key vineyard source for Joseph Jewell Wines, beginning with the 2013 vintage. With shale-like soils and positioned 500 feet above the middle fork of the Eel River, this vineyard also has extremely low yields, often registering at less than 2 tons per acre. The cooling influence of the river and the stony soils are essential in the development of flavors and textures that have become the signature of the wines from Alderpoint.

  • 2021 HALLBERG VINEYARD PINOT NOIR RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
    RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
    Expand
We first became familiar with the fruit of Hallberg through our work at Gary Farrell. When the opportunity presented itself for us to source grapes from this highly enviable site in 2010, we jumped at the chance to interpret this gorgeous terroir through the lens of Joseph Jewell Wines. With Goldridge soil and a consistent, gentle slope with prime exposure on the cusp of Green Valley, Hallberg is farmed impeccably by Kirk Lokka. Of special note, the vineyard is dry-farmed, meaning that Lokka foregoes irrigation in favor of encouraging the vines to drive their roots deep into the earth in search of precious nourishment, which enhances the vigor of the plants and translates to bolder, more complex fruit.

  • 2021 2021 PANTHER RIDGE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR PETALUMA GAP
    PETALUMA GAP
    Expand
Located on the western slope of Sonoma Mountain at 1,000 feet elevation with views of the Pacific Ocean, Panther Ridge is a very exciting vineyard and we're very fortunate to be working with this fruit. Suzanne Farver is focused on Sustainability in all facets of life and her vineyard is Certified Organically farmed with an emphasis on practicing biodynamics. Suzanne said that planting this vineyard was not easy, the amount of boulders that they had to remove before planting created a football field size pile in the middle of the vineyard. Driving the posts into the ground to create the fencing and the trellises was daunting and they did an amazing job because everything is straight. This is our first release from this vineyard and it is a taste of what is to come.

Description

From unexplored vineyards in hidden coastal corners of Humboldt County to renowned Russian River and Sonoma Coast sites, we create wines that combine character and approachability, community, and drinkability.

We source exceptional fruit from independently owned vineyard properties in Sonoma and Humboldt counties, selecting sites with unique soil profiles and weather conditions. As part of our commitment to the future, we seek out growers who implement sustainable farming practices. Working closely with the property owners throughout the year allows us to monitor the grapes’ progress and cultivate fruit that delivers the distinctive character of the site, resulting in the optimal expression of location. Winemaking techniques are minimal intervention to ensure each bottling is a dynamic expression of the vineyard, region, and vintage.
