  • 2021 Oceano Pinot Noir
San Luis Obispo Coast / Spanish Springs Vineyard
JEB DUNNUCK 93 points 2021 Oceano Wines Pinot Noir Oceano Spanish Springs Vineyard Coming from a mix of clones (828, 667, 777, and Swan), the 2021 Pinot Noir Oceano Spanish Springs Vineyard spent nine months in Burgundy barrels before bottling. Its ruby/purple hue is followed by a perfumed, expressive, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with bright mulberry and raspberry fruit, notes of sappy herbs, flowers, and orange blossom, some exotic marine-like iron nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's a gorgeous, delicate, perfumed beauty that I certainly love. It will keep for 10-12 years, but there's no need to delay gratification. - Jeb Dunnuck (8/30/2023) © 2023 Jeb Dunnuck | Reprinted with Permission

  • 2021 Oceano Chardonnay
San Luis Obispo Coast / Spanish Spring Vineyard
Expand 92 points (17 points) Oceano, Spanish Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2021 San Luis Obispo Coast (SLO Coast) The producer claims this is the closest vineyard to the ocean in California, being little more than a mile from Pismo Beach. Soils are marine shale, limestone and sandstone with marine fossils. Barrel-fermented at low temperatures with commercial yeasts and then aged for nine months in barrel with malolactic conversion blocked. 537 cases made. Smells of lemon curd, sea air, a hint of grapefruit and crushed nuts. Bright, stony flavours of lemon pith, lemon oil and a touch of yellow herbs have a nice crispness thanks to excellent acidity. There's lemon pith-and-peel dryness on the finish with a slightly chalky texture. Very pretty. (AY) 13.6%
